Budgam Police Bust Theft Ring; ₹11 Lakh in Stolen Gold Recovered

Police have dismantled a major burglary gang, arresting five men in connection with a high-value theft in Lakhripora. Authorities recovered stolen gold ornaments worth approximately ₹11 lakh and ₹83,000 in cash during the operation.

The case stems from a complaint filed by Mohammad Yousuf Najar, who reported that burglars broke into his home on the night of January 16 and escaped with valuables. Following an intensive investigation—which included CCTV analysis and local intelligence—Budgam Police identified and apprehended five suspects from across Sumbal, Srinagar, and Ganderbal.

In a significant twist, investigators also uncovered a secondary network of three goldsmiths allegedly involved in disposing of the stolen goods. The goldsmiths have been booked, and two vehicles used during the burglary have been seized. Further investigations are underway to determine if the group is linked to other unsolved thefts in the region.
