Khelo India: The Event of Sporting Excellence

The 4th Khelo India Winter Games, held in Gulmarg, Kashmir, concluded successfully with over 600 athletes showcasing their talent in Alpine Skiing, Nordic Skiing, Ski Mountaineering, and Snowboarding. In the midst of snow-laden landscapes and a spirit of sportsmanship, the 4th edition of the Khelo India Winter Games concluded at Gulmarg, Kashmir, marking a remarkable chapter in the annals of Indian winter sports. The event, spanning five days, showcased the prowess, dedication, and sporting fervor of over 600 athletes from across the nation, amidst the breathtaking vistas of Gulmarg.

From February 20 to February 25, the snow-covered slopes of Gulmarg reverberated with the sounds of competition and celebration as athletes competed in various disciplines, undeterred by challenges and setbacks. The Khelo India Winter Games, a testament to the government’s commitment to promoting winter sports, brought together athletes, officials, and sports enthusiasts to celebrate the thrill of Alpine Skiing, Nordic Skiing, Ski Mountaineering, and Snowboarding.

Despite the hurdles posed by adverse weather conditions, the indomitable spirit of the participants shone through, as they competed with valor and determination. From the heart-stopping Nordic sprints to the adrenaline-pumping Ski Mountaineering races, each event was a testament to the athletes’ unwavering resolve and skill.

The inauguration of the event by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha set the tone for an exhilarating showcase of talent and sportsmanship. With Union Ministers, sports dignitaries, and officials gracing the occasion, the stage was set for an unforgettable spectacle of sporting excellence.

Expressions of Gratitude and Acknowledgments:

Despite the hurdles posed by adverse weather conditions, the indomitable spirit of the participants shone through, as they competed with valor and determination. Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Union Ministers, and officials expressed gratitude towards athletes, officials, and supporters for their contributions to the event’s success.

LG Sinha heralded the commencement of the event, setting a tone of anticipation and excitement. Addressing the gathering, he remarked, “It is a momentous occasion for more than 600 athletes who have been preparing for this spectacular event”.

 

 

Emphasizing the broader significance of the games, LG Sinha expressed confidence in the event’s ability to foster unity and camaraderie among all participating teams. He stated, “I am confident the winter sports extravaganza will renew the spirit of brotherhood, peace, and harmony among all the teams.”

Extending a warm invitation, LG Sinha urged athletes, team officials, and sports enthusiasts to partake in the festivities and experience the thrill of various competitions amidst the backdrop of Jammu & Kashmir’s hospitality. He remarked, “I invite athletes, team officials, and sports enthusiasts to enjoy Jammu & Kashmir’s warm hospitality and the thrill of Alpine Ski, Nordic Ski, snow Mountaineering competitions.”

Acknowledging the transformative initiatives led by the government, LG Sinha credited the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for propelling a new era of sports in Jammu & Kashmir. He stated, “Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a new era of sports has emerged in Jammu & Kashmir.”

Recognizing the contributions of athletes and the support received, LG Sinha expressed gratitude towards the Government of India, Union Sports Ministry, and Sports Authority of India. He remarked, “Our talented sportspersons have proved their mettle in national and international sports events. Their achievements are inspiring the budding athletes to bring laurels to the UT and the nation.”

Union Minister of Information & Broadcasting and Youth Affairs & Sports, Anurag Singh Thakur, conveyed his best wishes through a video message, encouraging athletes to give their best in the tournament.

Shazia Hassan: Kashmir’s Skiing Sensation

In a remarkable display of talent and determination, Shazia Hassan, hailing from Uranhall Village in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district, has emerged victorious at the prestigious Khelo India Winter Games 2024. Despite facing early adversity after the loss of her father, Shazia’s journey took a transformative turn when she discovered her passion for Ski Mountaineering at the Jawahar Institutions of Mountaineering and Winter Sports.

Her participation in the Khelo India Winter Games saw her secure two silver medals in Ski Mountaineering, marking a significant achievement in a region where such feats are rare. Expressing gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the J&K Sports Council for providing a platform like Khelo India, Shazia emphasized the importance of sports in transforming lives and inspiring others.

Shahid Chachi: Gold Medal Triumph in Gulmarg

In a momentous victory for the host UT, Shahid Ahmad Chachi, a local sensation from Tangmarg, secured the coveted gold medal at the 4th Khelo India Winter Games in Gulmarg. Displaying exceptional skill and determination, Shahid clinched the top spot in Vertical Ski Mountaineering, leaving a lasting mark on the Kangdoori slopes.

Hailing from a humble background, Shahid’s journey to success reflects his unwavering dedication and self-taught athletic prowess. Army’s Triumph: Dominance in the Snowy Arena

The curtains have drawn on the 4th edition of the Khelo India Winter Games, leaving behind a trail of remarkable performances and memorable victories. Among the standout achievers, the Indian Army has emerged as the undisputed champion, showcasing unparalleled skill, resilience, and determination on the snowy slopes of Gulmarg.

With an impressive tally of 10 gold, 5 silver, and 6 bronze medals, the Army team demonstrated exceptional prowess across various disciplines, solidifying their dominance in the winter sports arena. Their stellar performance reflects not only individual excellence but also the rigorous training and team spirit instilled within the ranks.

Leading the charge for the Army team was a constellation of athletes who displayed unwavering commitment and steely resolve throughout the competition. Among them, Manjeet emerged as a shining star, clinching multiple gold medals in Nordic Skiing and showcasing exceptional speed and agility on the challenging terrains.

In the realm of Ski Mountaineering, Padma Namgial proved to be an unstoppable force, conquering the vertiginous slopes with unmatched precision and claiming the top spot in the men’s category. Similarly, Maharashtra’s spirited showing, with 7 gold, 8 silver, and 7 bronze medals, highlighted the depth of talent within their ranks. Athletes like Anchal Thakur and Deepika Thakur dazzled on the slopes, showcasing precision and finesse in Alpine Skiing and Snowboarding events.
