Withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan can have marginal impact on Kashmir situation: Ex-DGP Khoda

Says ‘GOI should review its policy for JK’

Former Director General of Police (DGP), Kuldeep Khoda on Tuesday said that the withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan can have little or marginal impact on Kashmir, saying that Government of India needs to review its policy on Jammu and Kashmir to decrease radicalization and alienation among the people.
Talking to Kashmir News Service (KNS), former DGP said that there is a less possibility of Afghanistan turning into ISIS dominated base and in case it happens, then it can have only marginal impact on Kashmir as the people in the Valley are dismayed at the fallout of ISIS activities in Iraq and Syria.
“ISIS is not getting much support from Pakistan or separatists on their agenda of getting a base for terror activities in Kashmir, though a small group of Zakir Musa is keen to get a foothold. However, overall impact of withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan won’t have significant impact on Kashmir situation,” he said.
About Jammu and Kashmir, former DGP told KNS that the Government of India must take a relook at its policy and develop a comprehensive Kashmir policy to address the increasing radicalization and local recruit of Kashmiri youth in militant ranks. Besides, the surrender policy needs to be made more practical to get the desired results,” he added. (KNS)
