Amit Shah Refutes Omar Abdullah’s Claims on Curtailing Powers of Elected Govt in J&K

BY EOK NEWS DESK

Srinagar, Oct 05: Home Minister Amit Shah took to Twitter to refute claims made by National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah, who alleged that the BJP has accepted defeat in Jammu and Kashmir and is planning to curtail the powers of the Chief Minister by amending the Transaction of Business Rules, assigning them to the Lieutenant Governor (LG). Abdullah further claimed that the move was being orchestrated by the Chief Secretary under pressure from the central government.

Omar Abdullah tweeted: “The BJP has clearly accepted defeat in J&K. Why else would the Chief Secretary be assigned the duty to change the transaction of business rules of the government to curtail the powers of the Chief Minister/elected government and assign the same to the LG? Officers would be well advised to resist any pressure to further disempower the incoming elected government.”

In response, Amit Shah, via his official Twitter handle, dismissed the allegations, calling them “misleading and speculative in nature.” He clarified that no such proposal was under consideration and reminded that the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Act of 2019 governs the rules already in place. Shah tweeted: “Mr. @OmarAbdullah’s tweet is misleading and speculative in nature. There is not even an iota of truth, as there is absolutely no such proposal. The Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Act of 2019 passed by the Parliament of India provides for notifying the transaction of business rules, and the same was notified in the year 2020.”

He further emphasized that the people of Jammu and Kashmir have shown great support for democratic governance, noting: “The people of J&K have wholeheartedly supported the efforts of the Government of India to bring in a democratically elected government through the historic free and fair election process in which the citizens participated enthusiastically.”
