BJP voices concern on misuse of privileges, demands dismissal of erring MLA

BY EOK NEWS DESK

BJP spokespersons voiced concern over the conduct of the house-members who are trying to disturb the proceedings of the house and causing loss of time and public exchequer.

Party takes serious note of baseless allegations, hurling aspersions and stimulating insinuations against the constitutional authority of LG on the floor of the House. The issue was raised by the party spokespersons GL Raina and Dr. Abhijeet Jasrotia accompanied by Dr. Pardeep Mahotra, BJP Media Incharge in a press Conference at party headquarters.

“It needs to be underlined that there are certain established parliamentary customs, conventions, etiquette and rules which are required to be observed by members, both inside the House as well as outside, former MLC GL Raina recalled. These are based not only on Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the Parliament/State Legislatures and Rulings and Observations by the Chair but also on past practices, customs and conventions and precedents and traditions of Parliament/state Legislatures, which a member is expected to know and be aware of, he added.

Stressing the fact that parliamentary privileges are not absolute and are subject to certain limits, GL Raina stated that MLAs are expected to use their privileges responsibly and not abuse them for personal gain or political mileage.

We are also aware that it is within the powers of the House to determine each case. Apart from the Committee of Privileges of the House which may inquire into cases of breach of privilege of the House by its members.

Dr. Abhijeet Jasrotia stated that it is responsibility of the presiding authority of the House to ensure that members don’t cross limits and in case someone dares to do that action under rules be taken against the concerned member.

It is sad to read that foul language was used against Hon’ble LG by a member of that party which is facing allegations of corruption and scams, Jasrotia asserted.

Pointing out that AAP MLA Mehraj Mallik has not only dragged office of the LG into baseless accusations but has also hurt religious sentiments of Hindus, he explained that BJP understands that NC is using its alliance partner to divert attention from real issues faced by the people of Jammu Kashmir.

BJP expects strict action against the erring MLA for crossing the limit. We in fact demand his immediate dismissal from the Legislative Assembly. Silence of NC on this is self-explanatory.
