Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha made an impassioned appeal to the people of Jammu and Kashmir to contribute collectively towards realizing the vision of a self-reliant Union Territory and building a developed India, or Viksit Bharat, as envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Addressing the gathering after hoisting the National Flag at Lok Bhavan to mark the nation’s Independence Day, the Lieutenant Governor paid solemn homage to the countless freedom fighters and martyrs whose supreme sacrifices paved the way for India’s sovereignty. The ceremonial proceedings commenced with a guard of honour, during which a smart contingent of the Jammu and Kashmir Police presented the National Salute to the tricolour against the backdrop of the national anthem.
Emphasizing the transformative phase underway across the region, Sinha observed that the roadmap toward a fully developed nation by 2047 hinges decisively on the active participation, civic responsibility, and determination of every citizen. He highlighted that true progress requires bridging administrative mechanisms with community aspirations, stressing that the path to long-term prosperity is inseparable from honest public service and civic engagement.
The Lieutenant Governor called upon all citizens of the Union Territory to dedicate themselves wholeheartedly to nation-building, underscoring the indispensable necessity of transparency, responsive administration, and deep-seated accountability in governance. He noted that the ongoing administrative reforms across Jammu and Kashmir are geared toward dismantling bureaucratic hurdles, ensuring that public welfare programs reach the last person in the socio-economic queue. Urging government functionaries and citizens alike to renew their commitment with greater vigour, sincerity, and dedication, he stated that individual integrity remains the bedrock of collective progress.
Reflecting on India’s historic journey, Sinha spoke at length about the immense struggles, resilience, and sacrifices that characterized the freedom movement. He reminded the audience that the liberty enjoyed today was earned through extraordinary perseverance and selflessness. Alongside his tributes to the nation’s freedom fighters, the Lieutenant Governor paid solemn respects to the civilians who tragically lost their lives in unfortunate natural calamities earlier this year, reaffirming the administration’s steadfast resolve to support affected families and build resilient infrastructure to mitigate future disasters.
“On this historic day, I join all citizens in paying heartfelt tributes to our founding fathers and the valiant sons and daughters of Mother India who sacrificed their lives for country’s freedom. Let us strive to realize their cherished dreams of building a peaceful, prosperous Jammu Kashmir and a great nation. The truest tribute we can pay to our martyrs and freedom fighters is to resolve to work with integrity and safeguard our hard-earned freedom,” the Lieutenant Governor said.
While candidly acknowledging the complex socio-economic challenges that lie ahead, the Lieutenant Governor expressed unshakeable confidence in India’s ascending trajectory and its potential to emerge as a global leader across science, industry, and human development. He asserted that building a resilient society requires tearing down divisions and forging an inclusive social fabric that places the public interest above narrow considerations and extends genuine compassion to the underprivileged, marginalized, and vulnerable sections.
“Let us strive for balanced growth and the economic empowerment of women to build a more humane and compassionate society. We must prioritize empowering women and youth, generating jobs and ensuring environmental sustainability. Our ongoing initiatives, such as revitalizing heritage sites, restoring ancient monuments and undertaking massive afforestation drives, stand as a testament to our steadfast commitment to sustainable development,” the Lieutenant Governor said.
Concluding his address, the Lieutenant Governor extended warm congratulations to the personnel of the Jammu and Kashmir Police and the Central Armed Police Forces who were conferred with prestigious gallantry and service medals on the eve of Independence Day. He commended their valorous service, vigilance, and dedication in maintaining peace and safeguarding the security of the region. Sinha also lauded the young sportspersons from Jammu and Kashmir for their stellar performances at national and international arenas, noting that their accomplishments have brought immense pride to the Union Territory and serve as an inspiration for the younger generation to pursue excellence with discipline and passion.
