PDP Governed with Agenda, Not Just Power: Mehbooba Mufti

By Agencies

Srinagar, September 3 : People’s Democratic Party President Mehbooba Mufti on Tuesday said that her party’s governance has always been driven by a clear agenda, not just the pursuit of power.

Addressing a gathering at Party Headquarters, she said that the PDP has consistently prioritized addressing the core issues of Jammu and Kashmir, whether in alliance with Congress or BJP.

Mehbooba Mufti said that since 1947, political parties have contested elections solely to form a government, but their focus has been on resolving issues. “We formed alliances to ensure that we could work towards peace and justice for the people.”

She also said that the PDP’s agenda included ending the culture of human rights abuses, initiating dialogue on the Kashmir issue, and safeguarding the state’s special status.

Mehbooba also said that while working with the BJP, her government managed to withdraw FIRs against 12,000 youth. “Despite being in alliance with the BJP, we didn’t compromise on our principles. We worked to protect the interests of the people, unlike other parties that have always prioritized their political gains,” she added.

Mehbooba further said that the National Conference has always shifted its stance depending on whether they were in power or not. When in government, they praised the electoral process, but when out of power, they condemned it, she said.

She also said that the PDP’s commitment to its agenda is unwavering, and they have always worked towards achieving peace and justice.

Mehbooba said that even in her government, she took decisive actions to uphold justice, such as dropping BJP ministers when incidents of injustice occurred. “We maintained our stance on important issues, ensuring that the people of Jammu and Kashmir were not left to suffer due to political expediency,” she added.(KNS)
