A Healthy Change

The positive story coming out of Jammu & Kashmir that deserves everyone’s attention towards the betterment of healthcare. While we often hear about infrastructure or politics, a quiet revolution is happening in the hospitals and clinics of the Union Territory. Recent data shows that J&K has become one of the safest places in India for a mother to give birth and for a child to grow up. The region is not just improving; in many ways, it is performing much better than the rest of the country.

The most heartwarming news concerns the health of mothers. In the past, giving birth could be a dangerous event, especially in remote areas. However, the numbers tell us that things have changed drastically. The Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR), which counts how many mothers pass away during childbirth, has dropped to 47 per 100,000 births in J&K. To understand how good this is, we must look at the national average, which is 88. J&K is nearly twice as safe as the average Indian state. This success comes from better ambulance services and the fact that more women are now delivering babies in hospitals where doctors and emergency care are immediately available.

The progress is just as impressive when we look at the health of young children. The first few days and months of a baby’s life are usually the most critical. In J&K, the Infant Mortality Rate is 14, while the national average is 25. Furthermore, the number of children under the age of five who pass away is 15 in J&K, compared to 29 nationally. These are not just statistics on a page; they represent thousands of families who are being spared the tragedy of losing a child.

A Healthy Change
Prevention is also a major priority. J&K has achieved a massive success in vaccination, with 96.5 percent of children being fully immunized. This is one of the highest rates in India and ensures that deadly diseases are kept at bay. The government is also looking to the future by introducing the HPV vaccine for teenage girls to help prevent cancer later in life.

All of this proves that the healthcare system in Jammu & Kashmir is working effectively. Through hard work, better facilities, and a commitment to saving lives, the Union Territory has set a high standard. It is a powerful example of how focusing on the basics of healthcare can create a brighter, healthier future for the next generation.
